Bobbi Lane shares a 30-second tutorial on lighting techniques for digital cinema using only two Lowel Tota 1000-watt lights (more about this on a future post). Before and after images and lighting diagrams are included.

Way too short, maybe around 3 min for this sort of thing would be good. I mean it looks like you know what you are doing so impress it!

I think the diagram at 0.42 contradicts the shot just previous. In the shot at 0:36, the key looks like it is much more directly in front of the interview subject and just over Eduardo’s left shoulder. But in the diagram, the key looks to be at close to 90 degrees to both the interviewer and the interviewee. Eduardo, can you clarify?

Mike, the diagram at 0:42 is correct. I am sitting next to Bobbi, not in front of her. The background light was perhaps a bit closer to her than the diagram but the overall positioning is accurate.

Awesome! Thanks! I’d love to see more quick little tutorials like this one. Great job!

Eduardo, may I ask another question? I was wondering about the bulbs used in this shot. I’m guessing 750 watt in the key and 500 watt in the backlight?

Mike, for this specific job shoot we used 2 Lowel Tota 1000-watt lights. I’ll add that info to the post. Thank you for the feedback.
